In NY though, was it complacency in that nobody thought he would win and therefore they just didn’t do their homework?

    No, it was neglect. He was the main opposition to the incumbent Democrat, I believe. You have to do your homework.

    He's now trying to align himself with the ultra-right in the party, figuring they'll need his vote and protect him. He's yet another stain on the escutcheon of American politics. I've rather have Elvis.
