January 24, 20233 yr comment_227371 @Alan WeissKeurig was one of my first clients. At the time, they were only selling machines for the office and I remembered thinking, "Boy, if they had this for home use, I'd buy one in a minute." Regarding drinks, Keurig did invent a machine that does what you're dreaming of. Apparently not enough people were interested in their product, as they've just stopped selling their counter cocktail making machines. Cheers! Report
January 25, 20233 yr Author comment_227380 Roberta, did you buy stock in the company at the time?? I've never found pre-prepared mixed drinks to be very good. (I'm excepting vodka poured out of the bottle.) Report
January 25, 20233 yr comment_227382 @Alan Weiss I think when I worked with them the company may have been privately held. Report
January 25, 20233 yr Author comment_227387 Keurig Dr. Pepper is a public company. You never thought to buy their stock at any point? Report
January 25, 20233 yr comment_227389 We don't have individual stocks in our portfolio, so I never thought to buy their stock at any point. Yes, I know Keurig Dr. Pepper is a public company. Keurig started out as a company owned by two guys and then Green Mountain Coffee acquired them in 2006. In 2016, Keurig Green Mountain was acquired by an investor group led by private-equity firm JAB Holding Company for nearly $14 billion In July 2018, Keurig Green Mountain merged with Dr Pepper Snapple Group in a deal worth $18.7 billion. What's interesting to note is that one of the founders accepted a buyout of $50K from Green Mountain. The other partner maintained his stake in the company. Report
January 25, 20233 yr Turbo Charge comment_227396 @Alan Weiss and I used KDP as an example in Million Dollar Influence (p. 107 if you're one of the few yet to read it 😃) of a company capitalizing on their successes. Recognizing the changing tastes and drinking habits within the hot and cold drink markets, KDP has evolved before our eyes in just a few years as @Roberta Matuson describes. Influence is evident as they looked up, down and out in their markets. I use their example when delivering Sentient Strategy as well. Report
