April 21, 20233 yr comment_228822 One of my clients was acquired by a larger company, and I still work with them. They now have to complete training every year, which includes diversity, etc. There's now a whole category of "micro-". One example in the training was a person of color who joins a team and the manager says that he treats everyone equal and doesn't see color, only human beings. That manager had committed "micro invalidation." You can't make this stuff up... Report
April 21, 20233 yr Author comment_228823 Unfortunately, you're right. We're not on a downslope where "virtue" supersedes merit. When I was in college, the inner cities burned. Martin Luther King was shot. But it was a more rational time than this one. I can deal with your rights being violated, I'm not so interested if you perceive your feelings have been hurt. Report
April 24, 20233 yr comment_228846 Wondering why parents haven't moved their children is a fair call. Where do they go? When 75% of school teachers are women...it's so much bigger than a district issue. I wonder what it will take for teachers to stand up for 'ladies'? Report
April 24, 20233 yr Author comment_228848 School boards are sometimes appointed here (and, therefore, highly politicized), and sometimes elective (and, therefore, highly politicized). Many people use them as a stepping stone to municipal and state offices. Meanwhile the unions here continue to never propose any initiatives for the students, only for the teachers. The pity is that the kids suffer, now and in their futures. The SPCA is more effective for animals than our educational system is for kids. Report
May 4, 20233 yr comment_228975 Same issue here. School boards are more likely to be 'selected' than 'elected', and yes, similar stepping stones apply. The reason unions don't propose initiatives for students is that they represent 'teachers', which are a resource required for 'teaching'. The cost of 'learning' is on the parents. An example is 'one-to-one devices. If they were 'essential items, ' the government would cover the cost of all things related to devices. They don't. It's also why schools send out 'stationery lists'. Report
