I want to talk today about those three university presidents who addressed Congress.

Hi Alan. The situation with Claudine Gay at Harvard is a little different than the other two presidents, because in addition to the anti-semitism charges, she's also accused of some fairly serious plagiarism. Out here, the president of Stanford was forced to resign a few months ago because of a similar charge.

It looks like Harvard is turning a blind eye to this, although another billionnaire donor today has said he's holding donations till things change. How would you recommend they resolve this situation?

 

 

I think the charges of plagiarism against Gay are related to improper citations in her research. I don't think anyone has accused her of taking credit for someone else's work. Every style sheet has specific rules about citations, and apparently Gay violated some.

But that doesn't mean she isn't an idiot. She looked like a whipped put in her testimony, a stupid, whipped put who couldn't decide how to disregard the advice a lawyer had apparently given her.

Harvard's committee called it "serious errors but not plagiarism." If she weren't a black woman she'd be on the streets. She's simply not impressive.

Errors my a…. There are clear examples of entire paragraphs from un cited sources incorporated verbatim into the main text with a few linking words here and there and no quotation marks.

She obviously thinks this is more than just an improper citation.

I stand corrected. She's an idiot and a liar.

 

We can all agree that she is not qualified for the job and, despite that, Harvard appointed her and is supporting her for bigoted reasons. Whenever we make such exceptions for someone in matters of law and/or ethics, we are admitting they are inferior and shouldn't be subject to existing standards. In business, when it's about family members, we deride it calling it nepotism.
